i watched hockey tonight, in person at yost arena, in ann arbor (is a whore) michigan. most of this is direct from my purerave journal, cause i'm too lazy to write it twice.
we won 6-3, which makes it at least 3 years in a row we've won, IIRC.. they haven't beaten us at all in a long time i think. i must say, watching us beat michigan (who is usually ranked #1 at the time) each year is one of the highlights of my hockey season. second only to watching us beat wisconsin, ANYTIME. and postseason is a whole nother story. but i digress.
anyway. i had heard a lot about yost arena.. i must say, it does have character. that said, it's old and effing COLD in there, and there are benches not seats. but still, a good place to watch hockey. lots of history. the students weren't there so the atmosphere was lacking to say the least.. i was disappointed.
my friend dallas who came with me vaguely root-root-rooted for the home team (he's from detroit), while i passionately cheered on my boys, and probably pissed off a lot of people. but that's my job.
there were a lot of great things about the game. three stars? alex goligoski had four assists. phil "the thrill" kessel had two goals, not to mention some of the most beautiful skating moves ever, holy crap HE IS SO GOOD. and ryan potulny got a FUCKING HAT TRICK!!!! those were the official three stars of the game. all that was greatly assisted by the michigan special teams, since they were pretty much nonexistent (it took them til the 3rd to finally kill off any of our power plays), so i give them a star too.
but the true highlight of the night was from our goalie, kellen briggs.
during a play stoppage, while the refs were sorting out penalties (things got a bit chippy by the third period :-D), kellen pulls up his mask to drink some water, and the michigan fans start chanting "ug-ly goal-ie!" over and over. kellen drinks his water, with this fabulous smirk on his face, and then skates around a bit.. stretches...drinks more water.... DOESN'T put his mask back down. play stoppage drags on and on, fans keep chanting, cause his mask is still up, right? and instead of pulling his mask down to shut them up, kellen TAKES OFF HIS ENTIRE FUCKING HELMET and sets it on top of the goal. !!!!OMFGROFLMAOWTFBBQLOLLERSKATES!!!!! oh my god i could not stop laughing. BEST MOMENT EVER. he was just so fucking amused by the whole thing, it didn't bother him a bit. i suppose it might not come across so well in words, but believe me, it was fucking HILARIOUS. i stood up and cheered like we had just scored a goal or something, seriously. MY HERO.
oh man. <3. that was just great.
and the michigan band kept playing their dumb cheer.. to the tune of "lets go band" (or lets go blue as they say).. a very very basic 5-note tune that everyone knows, i wish you all could read music so i could make you understand. but anyway, in true marching band fashion i turned "lets go blue" into "HIGH-SCHOOL CHEER!!" haha and i was being generous... i learned that thing in 5th grade :-P
anyway. that's my hockey story. SO MUCH AWESOME... i <3 my gophers.

this has been an absolutely exhausting weekend of epic proportions, capped off by seeing reel big fish tonight!!! for the sixth time! ahhhhhh so awesome, still. scott wasn't there, he's sick, and it was really interesting to see how the band has changed over the 5 years since i first saw them. they still put on one hell of a show though!
a couple of the songs they played (off of cheer up
) reminded me of those random late-night trips to mystic lake a few winters ago, getting stuck in traffic in the middle of the night and just BLASTING the music. good times.
and now i'm gonna get some food and pass out... my body hates me and wants me dead for all the abuse i've given it lately, and i don't blame it one bit.
driving home tuesday, for thanksgiving and stuff.

Congratulations! You're 123 proof, with specific scores in beer (80) , wine (133), and liquor (69).
Screw all that namby-pamby chick stuff, you're going straight for the bottle and a shot glass! It'll take more than a few shots of Wild Turkey or 99 Bananas before you start seeing pink elephants. You know how to handle your alcohol, and yourself at parties.
My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:
You scored higher than 45% on proof
You scored higher than 76% on beer index

wow, i got higher than 98% on wine?!?! haha, anyone who knows my drinking habits is probably laughing by now.

I'm going to be returning home Wednesday, October 12th. I then head back to Toronto on Sunday, October 16th. While home I'd like to do things, with people, of all sorts.
I repeat, I WANT TO SEE ALL OF YOU WHILE I AM HOME.
I understand the football team will be playing Wisconsin, at home, that Saturday. If there are any non-band folk who would like to actually ATTEND the game, and be drunken, rowdy members of the student section, I really really want to do that. Really badly. Even if you don't care much for football, join me in a drunken rowdy time.
I also need to go to Chipotle, several times. You have no idea how much I miss Chipotle.
But most importantly, I need to see people. Let's do things. I want to have a party Friday night. Where? No idea. But it'd be great to get everyone together.
I repeat, I WANT TO SEE ALL OF YOU WHILE I AM HOME FROM CANADIA.
Comment here or talk to me on AIM and let's plan stuff.

I live in Toronto now!!
Yup, I love it here. So far. My room is great.. they told me it was a "super single" and they weren't kidding on the 'super' part!! My residence used to be a hotel so it's really nice -- I live in a hotel room! King size bed, my own bathroom, no roomie, space for my LoveSac and a fridge and perhaps turntables if I decide to buy them. Not to mention space for all my crap, comfortably.. and anyone who saw my room(s) at The Apartment (RIP) knows I have a LOT of crap. I can see the harbour and the CN Tower from my window. I'm right downtown, just off Dundas between Bay and University, a block or two from the Eaton Centre, for those who know TO.
My mom left yesterday, but not til after she helped me out with a lot of stuff. I'm mostly set now, got the major stuff dealt with/bought. I have a digital camera now, so I'll take lots of pictures. People are still being quite friendly, and school doesn't start til Monday -- this is orientation/frosh week. Good times thus far. I'm still a bit worried about making university friends (as opposed to the rave friends I already have up here) but I'll work on it. I think I'll look for a club to join -- I need something to kill time anyway, since I only have class on Mondays, and Tuesday afternoons.
My room is mostly set up now, thanks to a friend's surprise appearance last night.. that made me happy. :-)
Yup. Just got minor stuff to deal with today... might spend some more time wandering around the city, getting acclimated and whatnot. I'm learning my way around really quickly, much to my mom's surprise. It's not hard to learn your way around a city when you love it so much.

Current Music: euphony - space invader
hit up return of the vets tonight. it was good times. gave me some much-needed closure regarding band, and a much better outlook on things. i feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders, and now i can go forward with this next year with no regrets or bad feelings at all. i've seen everyone one last time, been part of the singing and drinking and band-ness, and now i'll be off to canada shortly, to do my thing there. i'll be back, but in the meantime it's all ok, and i feel so much better about leaving.
<3 all of you. :)
